DEP Expands Waterway Regulations

To celebrate Earth Day this past April, the Department of Environmental Protection announced a proposal which would greatly expand protections of 900 miles of waterways in New Jersey. A “category 1” status to 15 river segments would impose a 300-foot development restriction buffers to protect drinking water and rare species habitat. The rule will be subject to public comment and includes parts of the Toms River in Toms River.
