If you’re thinking about doing any serious remodeling projects this spring, now is the time to start planning. Not only must the projects be decided upon, but the budget, financing and permits must be arranged. Consideration should also be given to the value these improvements add to your home when it comes time to sell. In other words, how much of the money you spend now will you get back when you sell your home? You need to compare construction costs for home improvements against the added value they bring at resale.
At the top of the list are kitchens, exterior siding, bathrooms and decks. These improvements, on average, recoup 85% of their cost at resale, but will cause your house to sell faster. Next are window replacements, family room additions and landscaping projects which add to the home’s curb appeal.
