States Take Action

State legislators across the country moved quickly to introduce bills to curb the use of eminent domain by local governments. One estimate showed that half the states had or were about to see action on such bills. N.J. Senators Gill and Allen, introduced S-2739 which prohibitted the condemnation of property for economic development objectives when that property is legally occupied for residential purposes and maintained in accordance with housing codes. No action would take place on the bill until the Senate ended recess in the fall.
