In Case You Were Wondering…
Many New Jerseyans were shaking their heads in disbelief at the state shut down while the budget was being resolved in July 2006. While the question begging to be answered was how the state can increase revenue and reduce real estate taxes, the state shut down cost plenty. The state lost $15.5 million in state lottery revenues, $4 million in fees from the loss of business in casinos in Atlantic City, and the pay from 45,000 state workers who had a nice 4 days off as a paid 4th of July vacation!
